CARPINTERÍA DE RIBEIRA

One of the few testimonies of Cereixo’s past as a port is the RD Shipyard, run by José Manuel Romero Dopazo, nicknamed “el carpintero” – the carpenter. It was founded by his father, who brought the Cabana de Bergantiños tradition here during the 1940s. The yard built and repaired wooden fishing boats for shipowners mainly in Camariñas, Camelle, Muxía and Fisterra. Vessels of up to 14 metres in length were made here and today this is the last remaining yard keeping up this traditional craft in the Ría do Porto.
